We’re expanding! This spring, the Burnier winegrowers planted 37,000 Muscat white, Syrah, and Rkatsiteli grapes.
In March 2025, the Burnier winegrowers planted 37,000 Muscat white, Syrah and Rkatsiteli grapes on 9.25 hectares.
- Muscat white — 15,000 plants
- Syrah — 14,000 plants
- Rkatsiteli — 8,000 plants
Planting layout: 2.5-metre row spacing and 1 metre between the saplings. Our standard is convenient for the special equipment, and the planting density makes up for the small load per vine. The plants also start to compete; they keep each other healthy and actively develop the root system.
Previously, we had planted just two rows of Rkatsiteli as an experiment. It’s time to take this Black Sea group variety seriously and use its trump card – high acidity. Rkatsiteli is suitable for making sparkling and non-sparkling wines.
Rkatsiteli is one of the oldest grape varieties cultivated today. Some scientists believe that it appeared in the first century AD, while others say it is older. Genetic studies show that it originates from Kakheti. The name of the variety comes from the Georgian and means “red stem”, which refers to the characteristic colour of the variety’s shoots and stalks. In an era of global warming, Rkatsiteli is valued for its late ripening and ability to retain high acidity, even in hot years.
You’ll never guess what the best New Year present was for the winery’s employees
